Made this pound cake earlier.
I blame Leani, and of course Marketman for posting such a great looking cake. Mine did not look like what he posted and I did not use one of those recommended butters but it turned out yummy anyway. Probably because I followed the recipe this time and did not do any "Akane-inspired improv". Hehe. ;-p The best thing was the slightly burnt crust beneath of course since I like a little crunchy-chewy texture on my cake.
Considered adding chocolate icing since I still have some leftover chocolate blocks but since feeling too lazy to do some more cooking after washing all the bowls so just had mine with some chocolate ice cream. Yumyum.

Splurged on the discounted mangas and totally blew my budget so lucky that there are only four days left til payday. ^_^; Unluckily, they don't carry the other Junjo Romantica volumes I lack so only bought the 7th volume. It has always been a pleasure to go to Cubao and go through all the scattered bookstores and find some good titles after hours of searching. I haven't had a lot of opportunities to visit of course due to the location and sadly, after a long time not going there, I found that they had closed down 2 Booksale branches. The Rustan's branch is now a Call Center of all things! Of course, after entering and trying to go up the Mezzanine to its former location, I was stopped by the guard to find out where I need to go. Oops!
The area where Booksale Ali Mall is formerly located is also undergoing renovation. Le Sigh! My aching feet simply can't tolerate any more walking and after going through Farmer's/Shopwise Booksales, NBS, Fully Booked and A Different Bookstore, my wallet and I need to recover so I didn't stay to find out whether they just moved the store to a different location still inside the mall.
Finished the day with 16 books and an almost empty pocket. Luckily, my brother had some business in Eastwood so I went with him in exchange for free lunch.
All in all, a very satisfying occasion.

I've always meant to answer the Book Memes going around but only found the time right now so I combined all the titles on the past meme and these are the results:
Legend:

Underline - Ones I've read for school
Italic - Ones I started but didn't finish.
Asterisk - Ones I always meant to read but somehow never got around to.
I think I may have copied some of the titles twice or thrice... ^__^;;;

Learning the Ancient Art of Healing
The ancient art of healing is expanding and reaching a wider following.
While different cultures have different healing arts to share—traditional medicine in China, leech therapy in India, hilot in the Philippines—now, more than ever, we are seeing an integration of all these practices, integration of the different healing arts and the integration with modern medicine.
In Canada and Germany, 7 out of 10 have tried folk treatment as alternative or supplement to modern health care. More recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) gathered in China to set the regulatory standards and folk medicine in cultures from South Africa to Japan. Member countries are expected to expand traditional medicine in their health care systems.
These ancient healing arts are making a comeback- appropriately at a time when it is most needed. Reports on possible economic recession are scaring even the most stable-looking hospitals. Rising prices of modern medicine are making people think twice about going to the hospital. On a wider perspective, even fuel, food, the financial crisis and climate change all have profound and profoundly unfair consequences for health, according to WHO Director General Dr. Margaret Chan. Thus, some would choose to forego health care.

He could use more training in the Head Massage area but generally my hair is ok and so hopefully he will get over his nervousness and pass his Training. I leave the house, I catch the bus
And go to work, the way I did before,
The same routine most every day,
Except I guess, I see my folks much more.
A year has passed, I thought by now that
I could make a new life of my own,
But habits are so hard to break,
I think of you and I still ache,
It takes too long to learn to live alone.
It's really bad when Friday comes,
Because I know the weekend lies ahead,
The walks we took, the football games,
And when it rains how late we stayed in bed.
I've done so much to change the house,
The attic's full of memories that I've known,
And yet, when I turn out the light,
I wait for you to say goodnight,
It takes too long to learn to live alone.
I go on dates but when I do
I always find, before the night is through,
The same old thing behind my smile,
I'm sitting there comparing him to you.
In the end it's always you,
I feel it even more when I get home,
I thought that I was free of you,
But I was wrong, I never knew
It takes too long to learn to live alone.

Just got back from the Malaysia/Singapore trip with Joyce. And the best thing about it is still the week spent without taking calls. Pure bliss. I know it is kind of mean of us but we really gloated a bit at being free from stressing over the queue volume. Wish that the time will be repeated. And I have to admit that I have really learned a few lessons on hassle-free travel. Which I will be applying the next time I will get another opportunity to go somewhere else. Especially the thing about luggage limit. And comfy shoes. And my health. And the budget. (Sino ba kasing tao ang nag-insist na P10k is enough for a week? At bakit ba kasi ako gullible at naniwala naman.)
Jun is pretty much an angel and a lifesaver. I think I misplaced his contact information so I have to check with Joyce but I really do have to thank him for all the help ( and probably the protection) and the companionship he provided while we were getting somewhat lost in Bukit Bintang.
Some things we missed: the KL Tower, the Batu Caves, any Spa (We forgot to consider the part about reservations.), the Singapore Zoo, exploring the Suria KLCC. Missed Kinokuniya Malaysia, though did get to explore (and did get lost inside) the bookshelves of MPH Malaysia and Kinokuniya Takashimaya. I am still trying to recover from not being able to buy Pinhoe's Egg. Argh.
Kailan kaya ang next time?

MALIGAYANG PASKO PO!
My brother flew to Hungary last Friday after a much delayed departure from NAIA due to the typhoon. (His original flight was at 11am but actual departure was at 11pm.) Did not get any compensation for the waiting time but at least we were able to spend another day with him killing time at the mall. My sister dragged us all to Casino Royale which is good because my brother wanted to watch Borat. At ayokong ma-torture no. And Daniel Craig is actually hot, which was a surprise since the trailer really did not present his good side so was expecting a construction worker-waiter as opined by some of my RL friends. Bagay na rin sa kanya yung unsmiling face kasi he looks funny when he smiles. He actually grew on me. Huh. I am not really a Bond fan so I can't offer an opinion on whether he makes a good James Bond or not but the movie was nice. Medyo unbelievable lang nga yung scenes with the leaping and jumping from lofty heights.
I'm going to miss my brother. Isang taon ko ring di makikita. Sana makauwi man lang kahit after 6 months or so. Pero baka hindi kasi mahal din ang pamasahe. Buti na lang may emails.
Saturday was annoying because of the whole day brown-out.
Also took the Yon-kyuu exam Sunday despite the fact that I know next to nothing. Well, that's P500 thrown away by my mad impulse. As if I can afford to do so. Hay! But at least, I won't need to dread the results as I am almost 80% sure of the outcome, unless some spirit is passing by and decided to tamper with the correction. At least that is one less pressure off my mind.
Met with D and friends after the exam and after lunch, hang-out sa HP then sa MOA. Did not find any exciting new book but did enjoy just hanging out with them. Pang-tanggal din ng stress. And yum! I want to eat Strawberry Crepe with Raspberry ice cream again.
Books Finished: The Goose Girl and Enna Burning by Shannon Hale. Medyo may pagka-Robin McKinley yung style niya sa Goose Girl pero different din in one way. They're both good books and I always love Fairy Tale adaptations. Next in line, if I can find a paperback copy will be her River Secrets.
